In chapter 18 we read that Jethro (Moses’ father-in-law) came to Moses in the desert. During their time together, they discussed how things were being handled and verse 19 really stood out to me. Jethro is speaking to Moses and says, “Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you.”

In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling (Exodus 15:13).

The scene shifts to a vision of God’s throne room in heaven. The imagery here stays consistent with the literary constructs of Jewish apocalyptic literature of the time, taking concepts from similarly themed notions from the Old Testament prophets (see Isaiah 6, Ezekiel 1 and Daniel 7).
