Gardening | Sandy Sauceda

If anyone knows me, they know how much I love to garden.  I grow zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, and many other herbs.  I also love planting flowers.  All gardeners know that it is important to get the soil tilled, weed free, and ready for the season.  The garden needs sunlight and water for the crops to grow.  There are so many similarities between gardening and how Jesus speaks to us. In John 15:5 He says: "I am the vine; you are the branches."  He also tells us to remain in Him, and He will remain in us. He will care for us just like I love to care for my tender little plants.

Many people think that they don't need Christ for all the little things going on in their every day life. Just like those weeds.  At first there is just one. If we leave that one weed in our garden, it has the potential to multiply, and the next time you look, there are many more. It is better if we reflect on the weeds in our own hearts and get rid of the weeds of anger, bitterness, and hatred. As we get the bad things out of the soil, we replace them with good things. I use Miracle Gro every 2 weeks in my garden to keeps my plants thriving. We need to make sure our spirit is fed by filling ourselves up by reading God's word.  Give all of our struggles over to God and trust Him.

In Exodus 14:13-14, Moses tells the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance of the Lord today. The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still." Let's get rid of the things that can hurt us or wound us. As we fertilize our hearts with hope, love, and joy, we will see growth in our garden. We will learn to trust in Jesus - our true vine.
