Overall, in these chapters, we hear from David as he cries out for help day and night for himself. He is crying out so deeply that his body and bones hurt. He is totally worn out from groaning. But even in the midst of his struggle, he takes time to pray for others. That really struck me. That's a man that dies to himself and pleads on behalf of others. He begs for mercy and healing. He has a firm foundation that there will be no help except from God Himself. It appears David got some relief and then breaks out in praise and worship in Chapter 8. He acknowledges that God is Majestic. He is in awe of all His creations, especially human beings and the role we play in the world. David continues his praises in Chapter 9. He takes time to thank God with all his heart before interceding. I particularly appreciate all the important reminders of who God is. It continues through most of the psalms. But the ones that speak to me in this chapter are the following:
The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
Lord, you never forsake those who seek you.
You do not ignore the cries of the afflicted.
God will never forget the needy.
These are great promises we can hang onto and remind ourselves of when we are struggling or even declaring them back to God.
These chapters stirred me to speak the Word of God and decree God's promises over areas of my life. And to also decree to God who He says He is.
I hope it did the same for you.
