There is a Purpose in the Storm | Tim Novotny

According to the dictionary, the definition of a storm is a violent “disturbance of the

atmosphere.” We can all agree that we will be facing a storm at some point in our lifetime.

How do we deal with storms that arrive suddenly in our lives?

From looking at the disciples, we can learn much about how not to deal with storms, but somehow we tend to find ourselves reacting in the same way that they did. Even though they were equipped with the Word- both through hearing the Word and actually having the Word (Jesus) in the flesh with them- they still chose the wrong options.

In specifically looking at Matthew 8:23-27 and Mark 4:35-41, a literal storm came upon the disciples while they were on a boat. In that instance, they chose panic, fear, anxiety, and frustration to deal with the pending doom that suddenly came upon them. Mind you, Jesus, in the middle of all this chaos, is asleep in the boat.

Yes, asleep.

I want you to know, right now, in the middle of this storm of COVID-19, Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father in Heaven with the same disposition He had on the boat over two thousand years ago - even while our atmosphere is being violently disturbed. He is not panicked, or fearful, or anxious. God is using this storm to mature you, to strengthen you, to elevate you, and to draw you even closer to Him and His word. Hold on to Jesus, He will never let you go.

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in my soul takes refuge; in the

shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storm of destruction passes by.

- Psalm 57:1
