“Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.” (1 Corinthians 1:29)
So often we look at our ordinary lives and don’t believe that we could be used for extraordinary events. If we look in the Bible, we can see plenty of ways that God used the least expected people for His work.
Shepherds, a despised profession, were the first to learn and share the news that Jesus had been born.
Moses, a wanted murderer who was “slow of speech,” lead the Israelites out of slavery.
Esther, a young Jewish girl became Queen Of Persia and saved her people from annihilation.
Matthew/Levi, a despised tax collector goes on to become a disciple of Jesus.
A demon possessed man living in the tombs was set free by Jesus and returned home to share his story with his family.
The Samaritan woman at the well shared her story and many believed in Christ because of it.
David, a shepherd boy, became King of Israel.
Rahab, a prostitute, helped Israel inherit the promised land.
Saul/Paul, a religious leader who persecuted Christians accepted Christ and went on to write much of the New Testament.
Jesus was an outcast born into poverty.
God even made A DONKEY talk to get a point across.
When we are quick to doubt that God has big plans for us, we need to remember the value He speaks into our lives. Ephesians 2:10 says, “We are God’s masterpiece, created to do good works that He prepared for us to do before we ever existed.”
Believe in God’s ability to use your life for good works, He’s already up to something!
