Psalm 1 | Sue Russell

"Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, nor stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.

But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.

They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do." Psalm 1:1-3

About a week or so into the shelter-in-place, I was walking my dog and praying. If I were being honest, it was more like complaining to God. As I looked at what was going on around me in the natural world, none of it was what I would have chosen, and I was letting God know that. Then, suddenly out of nowhere, I felt led to pray “I yield to what you are trying to do in me in this season.” Not a real profound prayer, but certainly one that began to change my perspective.

Shortly after this I was reading Psalm 1 and saw something I had never seen before. I read it in the NLT version- so it is slightly different than other versions of the same verse, but in verse 3 it states “They are like trees planted by the riverbank, bearing fruit EACH season (emphasis- mine). EACH season, as in no matter what season we are in- if we are in Christ- there is fruit being borne in us. We may not see it, we may not feel like it- but rest assured, God says there is fruit. So, may we rest today in the fact that God is working something in each of our lives that will last for eternity as we yield and rely on Him.
