Reflections: Joshua 14-19
First of all, I could not believe that the church started reading the book of Joshua right after we did a sermon series on it. Hearing some of the teachers and then reading it was so beneficial to me. Since a lot of it had to do with allotting land to the tribes of Israel, I concentrated on some specific verses that spoke to me.
The 14th chapter was such an encouraging word to those that follow the Lord wholeheartedly. Caleb says that he was still as strong today as when Moses. sent him out. He is just as vigorous to go out to battle (at the age of 85) as he was when he was only 40!
What an encouragement for those of us who are aging. Sometimes we tend to think our days are not as effective, but they can be. I have examples right in front of me with Jose and Paula Lopez. They are just as active and relentless in the kingdom as they were decades ago. If you don't have people older than you to connect with, find some and learn from them.
Remember what the Lord said to Moses about us? We brought back a report according to my convictions and we followed the Lord wholeheartedly.
Another encouragement to me is Chapter 17, verses 17-18: "You are numerous and very powerful. You will have not only one allotment but the forested hill country as well. Clear it, and its farthest limits will be yours; though the Canaanites have chariots fitted with iron and though they are strong, YOU CAN drive them out"! Wow. I have to get this in my walk with God. He says “even though, you can!”
Chapter 18 also struck me as Joshua says “How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you?” I felt like God was saying that to me. “Mary, how long will you wait? Go after it. Go after what I am saying to you.” This has not been easy lately. Quite honestly, it has been difficult, especially with Mathew's health and everything revolving around care, more responsibilities and appointments, etc. But my mind and heart have to stay focused and go after things in the spirit realm! We were both were reminded the other day about the scripture that says in due time, we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9).
